A Brief History of Sawyer's Farm - Location of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre

Deep in the heart of Texas, nestled among the sun-scorched fields and whispering oaks, lies one of horror cinema’s most chilling landmarks: the Sawyer family farmhouse. This is the setting of Tobe Hooper’s 1974 cult classic The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, where Leatherface and his cannibalistic kin turned a quiet country home into a slaughterhouse of screams.

Texas Chain Saw House

Originally located in Williamson County, Texas, the house was a real Victorian-era farmhouse—its creaky floors and looming gables perfect for the film’s raw, documentary-style terror. During filming, the cast endured blistering heat, rotting meat props, and relentless takes, all of which added to the film’s grimy, claustrophobic dread.
But the story doesn’t end there…

In 1998, the house was carefully dismantled and moved piece by piece to Kingsland, Texas. There, it was reassembled and restored—like a haunted puzzle—and now serves as a restaurant beside the Antlers Inn. Visitors can dine in the very rooms where cinematic nightmares were born, surrounded by eerie memorabilia and echoes of chainsaws past.

Today, Sawyer’s Farm (as fans affectionately call it) is a must-visit for horror buffs. Though Leatherface no longer roams the halls, the air still feels heavy with dread. The walls remember. The floors creak with stories. And if you listen closely… you might just hear the distant hum of a chainsaw.
